In Case You Missed this, well-known beauty brand, L‘Oréal previously made a major move by including plus size models in their L’Oréal Paris True Match Campaign: Your Skin, Your Story. This would be the first time plus sizes would be included in the company’s campaign. Their goal was; to show “the intrinsic worth and beauty of everyone” while championing “the unique mosaic of American beauty and L’Oréal Paris’ tenet ‘You’re Worth It.’”
While we are used to seeing chiseled faced, straight size models in beauty campaigns, it was definitely a breath of fresh air to see new faces and figures represented in the make -up scene. Plus size model and body activist Marquita Pring, plus model Sabina Karlsson and male model, Darnel Bernard were featured in the campaign along side other models; Lara Stone, Alexina Graham, and Xiao Wen Ju for the first time.
The “Your Skin, Your Story” campaign promoted the True Match 33-shade foundation range by celebrating women of different shapes, sizes and colors.
They had the opportunity of sharing their body stories with the world through the campaign. Looking back on the L’Oreal campaign, Marquita says: “I tear up every time I see this ad.
I will never forget at 15 years old knowing that I wanted to pursue this career. At that time the curvy industry was just starting to take shape, I didn’t even know it was an option for me yet. I remember thinking my body will never be small enough to be a model so I guess I can do beauty work and head shots… After all, make up has no size. Year after year I kept requesting to go on beauty castings and would always get shut down. Until NOW.
THANK YOU L’Oréal for opening these doors that have been closed for so long.
Marquita also has other outstanding works to her name featuring in several other campaigns and magazine features. She graced the pages of Vogue Italia and has other works with several brands. She was on the “I’m No Angel,” campaign for Lane Bryant, a direct dig at Victoria Secret.
