Canadian fashion designer Lesley Hampton stretched fashion boundaries at the recently concluded Toronto Women’s Fashion Week. She unveiled her FW18 collection titled LITHIUM, she featured models of different ages, sizes and races. The collection also raised awareness for mental health issues and the surrounding stigma.
The collection was a dark medley of sheer, sequins, prints and lace in feminine styles with an edge.
A couple of the models took to their social media handles to express their emotions on walking the runway.
For the final walk through the designer and her models donned black bomber jackets with the words “We are in Control” inscribed on the back. Talk about making a powerful statement!
The designer who is popularly known for diversity and body positivity themes in her shows took to her Instagram page to talk about why inclusivity is important to her. Here is what she said;
“…I casted for this runway show based on the mind of the model as opposed to just their outward appearance; to really get to know each individual woman who walked my runway, represented my work, and shared my concept so strongly… For a model to tear up with happiness for being given the opportunity to walk a fashion week where your body size, skin colour, or ability is underrepresented, to myself tearing up at the thought of the movement we are creating together as a wolf-pack, I am incredibly proud and honoured to have met and worked with all of these inspiring, strong women.”
