According to Wales Online, British PS Blogger, Callie Thorpe recently shares how she stopped being obsessed with weight reduction laxatives, accepting her body and finding happiness as well as modelling for Vogue and ASOS. Before now, she was nicknamed ‘calories’ by bullies from her class. Callie suffered from asthma in her teens and gained weight due to the steroid prescription.
Speaking about her weight challenges, Callie says “I got really addicted to laxative teas. There is a Chinese weight loss tea you have after you’ve had a meal and it makes you s*** yourself, basically. I would be having agonizing cramps in my stomach and my body started rejecting oil and I was always in pain.”
Recounting her encounter with an elderly woman at a post office, she said she was crushed after being told she was too overweight which pushed her to start an online diary thinking it would help her lose weight if she was accountable to people.
The turning point was when she came stumbled on a blog by an American plus-size Blogger turned Designer, Gabi Gregg. “She was online and wearing a bikini, Callie said. I had never seen a bigger woman wearing something like that so comfortably”. Now realizing that a positive attitude is was vital, she ditched her blog and launched a new one called From The Corners Of The Curve” which mapped her journey towards welcoming her size, began wearing clothes she had thought were off limits to full-figured women (crop tops, dungarees, jumpsuits, prints). Callie had finally started to love herself and this was just the beginning of a whole new world for her.
Apart from featuring in Vogue where she was part of a bikini round up, she is also signed with Milk Management, a model agency where she consults for plus-size fashion brands. Callie also partnered with Nike on their newly released plus-size, proving that curvy women too love a good workout and encouraging them to feel positive about their bodies. In 2016 she became the first plus-sized columnist for Marie Claire and has since then also written for Vogue. Callie currently has an Instagram following of over 174,000 people and is married to the love of her life.
She recently joined Hayley Hasselhoff and BodiPosiPanda in a protest organised by Simply Be Uk to promote awareness for models and fashion for all sizes during London Fashion Week.
