Tim Gunn is focusing on more than fashion this holiday season, particularly from the plus size angle. The “Project Runway” star, 63, isn’t asking for many gifts that be gift-wrapped this year, he’d be more interested in seeing better size representation when it comes to diversity in fashion and on TV, not to mention improving his fencing, checkout his wish list below:
1. Continued good health
“Feeling quite fit and healthy at 63…who wouldn’t wish for another year of good fortune?
2. A new season of “Project Runway” in which all of the models are size 12/14-plus.
“Isn’t it time that fashion designers address the real world?”
3. Adding two feet to my fencing lunge
“Fencing is a newfound passion. After a year, my lunge reaches four feet. I’m aiming for six. Thank you, Tim Morehouse!”
4. Learning that the outcome of the presidential election was a hoax
“Really, can the world get any crazier? I’m afraid to contemplate that.”
5. An interesting, compelling and vibrant topic for a new book
“My co-author Ada Calhoun and I are experiencing a malaise. Perhaps Santa can assist?”
For years, Tim Gunn traveled to D.C. and Bethany Beach, Delaware for family holiday celebrations. Since his mother’s passing, he tells The Post that he’s taken on hosting Thanksgiving, which he says has given him a “Get Out of Jail Free card” for Christmas. “I stay put,” he says. “I love my family, I really do, but Thanksgiving is enough.”
Since staying in New York City for Christmas, Gunn has begun a tradition of spending Christmas Eve at the Met. “That evening, I’ll open a bottle of champagne, pop popcorn and watch ‘Pee-wee’s Playhouse Christmas Special‘ and ‘Meet Me in St. Louis,’” he told us.
“As a child, I truly believed in Santa Claus,” Gunn said. “Accompanying that was a roller coaster of emotions: eager anticipation, worry (Had I been good enough?), excitement (What will Santa bring?), fear (What if the reindeer are ill?), and finally, ecstasy. Santa never disappointed. I’m so thankful for those times.”
It’s impressive to see that someone who holds such a high regard in the fashion industry takes it upon himself to support the body positive movement in his own way. Ashley Nell Tipton who was a product of project runway is still doing well in the fashion industry, which means it’s not a bad idea to get more plus size winners afterall.
