Two episodes into Nicole Byers new show; ‘Loosely Exactly Nicole’ and we can’t get enough even though there is so much buzz about Nicole being the only black person in the show, like, literally the only one. Despite the fact that portraying a person as a pop of color in an all-white world is something we mostly left behind in the late 2000s, we can’t help but admire how the plus size comedian keeps us entertained and glued to our sits.
Comedian Nicole Byer’s lead role is, of course based loosely, if not exactly on and inspired by her real life, which makes the show a lot more interesting. Until Issa Rae’s “Insecure” debuts on HBO next month, Byer is the only black female comedian anchoring her own scripted series, and she joins a very short list of others who have done the same including Wanda Sykes with “Wanda at Large,” Mo’Nique from “The Parkers,” “227” star Marla Gibbs and Whoopi Goldberg with “Whoopi.”
“Loosely Exactly Nicole” airs Mondays at 10:30/9:30 ET/PT on MTV, watch the trailer.
